Nov. Monthly Reading Recommendation

Welcome to my first Monthly Reading Prescription! I have a sea of wonderful books I have read and would love to share them with my readers. Each week I will share one of my favorite books with you for your health, communication, and enjoyment. This week’s highlighted reading recommendation is “Positivity” by Barbara L. Fredrickson.

Fredrickson is the Director of the Positive Emotions and Psychophysiology Lab (PEPLab) at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has received funding from the National Institute of Health for more than 16 years for her research in social psychology, affective science, and positive psychology.

Fredrickson’s book, “Positivity,” features compelling findings from her 20-year research program on positive emotions. The book is written for the general population, without scientific jargon, and offers excellent insight into the effects of positive emotions. She includes a self-evaluation test on her website www.positivityratio.com.  For an ideal balance in one’s life, Fredrickson recommends a 3:1 ratio of positive to negative emotions. She also includes many practical tips for everyday life to improve positivity and well being, such as meditation and using positivity to energize those around you. “Positivity” received nationwide success and has been cited in numerous publications. In 2013, Fredrickson published her second book “Love 2.0,” which has also garnered positive reviews.
